Religious Symbolism in University Correspondences

The University of Waterloo, as a matter of unofficial policy, allows faculty and staff to include religious symbolism in their e-mail signatures as long as the symbolism is not meant to proselytize. That making one's religious faith public in university correspondence is not proselytizing is a decision made by the university; however, I will be including various religious symbols that I have come across:

  • <>< The Christian 'fish' used initially in pre-Christian Roman times as a means of Christians identifying one another. This symbolism is still used today as is evidently clear on the automobiles. The simple conversion of a fish to three ASCII characters makes this easy to include in signatures.
