The presenter is the primary focus of any technical presentation. Good organization and good visual aids are both prerequisites for a good presentation; however, a poor presentation will negate many of these previous efforts. A good presentation may also alleviate some shortcomings in organization and visual aids.

Watching presentations will highlight both positive techniques and highlight mistakes. New speakers should not become immediately discouraged if they do not hone their oratory skills with their first few presentations. Other means of improving presentation skills is to join a local chapter of Toastmasters International, an organization which "helps its members improve their communication and leadership skills while fostering self-confidence and personal growth".
